Tura is a hilly town and a municipality in West Garo Hills district in the Indian state of Meghalaya. One of the largest towns in Meghalaya, Tura is a valley located at the foothills of the Tura Hills and right below the Tura Peak.

Located in the West Garo hills, Tura provides a spellbinding as well as serene environment being quite an unexplored town.

This relatively large town in Meghalaya is located in the West Garo Hills. The main attraction of this town is the Nokrek National Park which is 12km from the town where various animals such as the leopard, golden cat, wild buffalo, pheasant and many more find habitat. One may also visit the Rongbang Dar Falls, while a trip to this area, without visiting the Siju caves, would remain somewhat incomplete. The entire area has the simple nature of an unexplored destination, with a shifted world.

Natural Habitat

Tura is located in the Garo Hills, which is richly diverse in flora and fauna. The region comprises mainly deciduous and evergreen forests filled with different varieties of trees including the Tura peak which lends its name to the place, insectivorous plants, ferns, rare orchids, and medicinal varieties. The forests also have many fruits trees like plums, peaches, pears, oranges etc. as well as spices such as ginger, turmeric, cinnamon etc. The region is home to many species of animals including - hoolock gibbon, muntjac or the barking deer, golden langur, Himalayan black bear, elephants, leopards etc. The hilly forests also have a large avian population. Some of the birds found here are - the thick-billed green pigeon, red-winged crested cuckoo, grey-headed myna, red jungle fowl and blue-throated barbet.

Located in the foothills of the picturesque Tura Peak, the hilly town is home to a diaspora of tribes namely, the Garo. Scattered with several waterfalls, Tura is the administrative center of the Garo tribes and one of the biggest cities in Meghalaya
